With the advent of the wang contest that the US is currently holding with Iraq (haha, holding, that's a ... nevermind), there's been a lot of protesting going on around the world. Let me say first that I don't support war in any form or fashion, unless there's orcs a foot, at which point I have my Level 4 Blademaster ready to pummel their green toady bodies into to squishy goodness.
I live in America....United States for all those playing at home, and oddly enough from the home state of teh_Dubya. Even more coincidental is that I go to the university where the_Bush_Senyar's personal library is located. I've even been to it. But point is made - I have, at least in a physical and logistical magnitude, at least SOME affinity with teh_Bushx0rs.
But getting to my point. The protesters. I'm having serious problems with them. It doesn't stem from a difference of opinoin - again, I don't support war, but Saddam is close enough to Sodom that I know he needs to be removed, plus there's the whole, you know, WEAPONS OF HILARIOUS DAMAGE POTENTIAL factor - but more from just the absolute idiocy that drops for their jaws.
And since I only have twenty more minutes until class, and because I'm currently in a LAB...on a MAC (sigh), I don't want to torture myself anymore than I might have to (or want to). So i'm only going to focus on one thing - the idea of democracy.
There's too much moaning going on lately about how Bush wasn't formally elected, that he didn't win the vote, etc. etc.
I have toooooo much to say about this. First of all, the argument is that he didn't win the popular vote. Well all I can say is that some people didn't bother to vote in his name because they were sure he would win. How many millions of Texans ALONE didn't vote? K, point one made. Not to mention I've heard talk of "discovered" ballots months after the numerous recounting fiascos. There's also the matter of absentee votes, bla bla. I don't have all the details but the point still stands. So all you people bitching about how he didn't win? Shut up. I mean, seriously, the votes that were "supposed" to be for Gore, but the United Idiots of Florida (UIF, has to be true) can't read the damn ballot? Wow, do we REALLY want these people choosing our leader? NO. Of course not. So stop beating the dead and decayed horse about how Bush doesn't deserve his position of power. Do I think there are better candidates than him? Yes, but there surely weren't in the last election.
But the meat of my discussion here is the whole "America is a democracy, and all us protesters don't want war, and the big bad government isn't listening to us, and we're being ignored because we're idiots anyway, and how can America be a democracy if this is giong on, oh and my feet hurt."
I'm sick and tired of it. America is NOT a democracy. A democracy is complete and utter rule by the people. But as powerful as a nation we are, we can't afford this. Why? Because the people in this nation are complete idiots. If you need proof of this, go watch Jay Leno when he interviews people on the street. These are people who don't know what color George Washington's white horse was, or who is on the Susan B. Anthony coin. We can't allow you idiots to have say in how the country is run, when we have things like nukes and MOABs at our disposal. I'd go into this more, but seriously, don't even try to argue this. We're a nation of dumbasses, each and every one. My sister, who does applied fucking MATHEMATICS, and whose IQ is easily beyond 150 (certifiably genuis) does the most insanely idiotic things. I love her to death, but when she calls me at 12 midnight and asks me to log onto a website to find out where her GRE TEST IS TAKING PLACE AND WHEN, I seriously gotta wonder. And she's smart. Unbeleiveably smart. And you think I'm going to let this country be run by the penismunchers of Florida? Alabama? Mississippi? Etc? Sigh. Just stfu.
So we're not a democracy, every damn voice doesn't count. At the best, we're a democratic republic. We're run by a select and elite group of people. I'm not saying they are much smarter than the rest of us (and God knows they aren't), but the point is that for a country of this degree, we need a ruling class and elected selection of delegates. All of these protesters whining that they aren't being heard? Of course the fuck not. The government, like everyone else, has its own agendas and means to their own ends. There is no way any nation could survive being completely democratic. No way in hell.
I'd write more, but the point is more or less made, and I'm kind of late, so I'm going to leave this for now.
She's my peanut butter cocoa puff, and I'm cuckoo for her.
